Acne and Acne Scar

Acne

Also called pimples, A skin condition that occurs when hair follicles plug with oil and dead skin cells. Acne is most common in teenagers and young adults. Symptoms range from uninflamed blackheads to pus-filled pimples or large, red and tender bumps called cyst.

If left untreated, severe acne can leave life-long scars on your skin. Treating infected pimples before the infection can spread to the skin around it is important since inflamed cysts caused by infected skin can often leave a scar. If left untreated, severe acne can leave life-long scars on your skin, which is difficult to treat. Taking care of your skin and treating your acne reduces the risk of scarring.

Acne Scar

Scars are formed when a breakout (Acne) penetrates the skin deeply and damages the tissues beneath it.

Scars are of two types

1) Atrophic or depressed scars

2) Hypertrophic or raised scars

1) Atrophic or depressed acne scars – Atrophic scars are most common on the face. A depressed scar sits below the surrounding skin. They’re formed when not enough collagen is made while the wound is healing. There are three types of atrophic scars:

  • Rolling scars
  • Icepick scars
  • Boxcar scars

2) Hypertrophic or raised acne scars – These scars are most common with chest and back acne. They stand above the surface of the surrounding skin and are caused by too much collagen during healing.

TREATMENT:

But before treatment can start, you first have to get rid of any acne once and for all since new breakouts can lead to new acne scars.

1) Subcision

2) MNRF

3) Dermaroller or skin needling

4) Dermal fillers

5) TCA cross

1) Subcision:

It involves inserting a small needle into your skin to release the acne scar from the underlying tissue. This allows your skin to rise and to diminish the appearance of the acne scar.

2) MNRF:

Microneedling Radiofrequency (MNRF) is an advanced cosmetic treatment for skin rejuvenation and treating large open pores, acne scars and skin tightening. The procedure uses radiofrequency waves to stimulate the production of collagen, which reduces the pore size by making your skin tighter.

3) Dermaroller or Skin Needling:

Dermaroller uses fine needles that prick your skin. During the skin-pricking process, your skin produces more collagen in an effort to heal the small wounds from the needles.

The theory is that new collagen that’s formed will help smooth out your skin’s appearance, helping to fill in fine lines, wrinkles, and scars. Also, PRP solution can be added while Dermaroller or needling for the better cell growth response.

4) Dermal fillers:

Temporary dermal fillers may not completely remove the appearance of acne scars, but the results are enjoyed by many patients who want an improvement and have realistic expectations. The level of improvement will be based on the degree of scarring and the expertise of the cosmetic surgeon.

5) TCA:

Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is applied to individual scars in order to make them less shallow. TCA Cross works best for ice pick scars, boxcar scars and dilated pores.
